    Sujet

Bridging integrator 1 (Bin1) is a conserved member of the BAR family of genes that have been implicated in diverse cellular processes including endocytosis, cell polarity, programmed cell death, and stress signaling. It is involved in membrane remodeling and is one of the important genes in predicting risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Alternative splicing of the gene results in ten transcript variants. Isoforms 1-7 are expressed predominantly in the central nervous system. Isoform 8 is expressed specifically in muscle, and defects in BIN1 cause autosomal recessive myotubular myopathy. Isoforms 9 and 10 are ubiquitously expressed and may act as tumor repressors.
